Seven Really Really Good Reasons to Generate Your Own Energy
The technology has been around for many years.
It is readily available, cheap and proven.
In fact one of the problems we may face is what product to use and how are we going to implement it.
When it comes to renewable energy there are a number of viable choices.
Such as Wind, Thermal, Wave power, Tidal, Hydro this would include steams and rivers.
Finally Dams although these have become very controversial over the last few years and I will not be dealing with them here.
I do know of a fortunate few who live by a river or stream and by using a water turbine can generate a reliable constant source of power.
But as I see it when we look at our own domestic consumption there are three choices facing us if we are going to take action.
1)Solar or Photo voltaic panels feeding back electricity into the local power companies grid.
You get reimbursed by the power company and in many cases this reimbursement will exceed your yearly expenditure.
This is for most people the quickest and easiest solution.
It is not yet available in all areas but as public pressure mounts its availability will increase.
Even if you are not in one of these areas you can put panels on your roof (or any area facing the sun) and dramatically reduce Electricity consumption.
Especially if you can get the panels cheap enough.
2)Using a Solar and a battery storage system.
This is what most people will think of when Solar power is mentioned.
It has many advantages in that it can give you total independence from power companies.
Including the power cuts and many disasters that can befall the grid.
It's down side is the increase in cost and finding an area to store the batteries.
If you are doing it your self you may require a little more technical knowledge.
Especially as you will need a booster in order to start many electrical motors.
Refrigerators are an example.
Having said that the information on how to do all off this is readily available and easy to use.
Any parts you may need can be obtained with very little effort and at a fraction of the costs of the manufactured item.
3)The third choice would be Wind Turbines.
Now these are not for every one or every where.
In some urban areas they will be banned for reasons of safety and noise.
They tend to make a whoosh whoosh sound when turning.
There is one big advantage however.
The wind will blow day and night and it does not take a lot of wind to generate a good deal of power.
So if you do have the right spot (some areas do not produce enough wind to justify installing one.
) Then you have a very cheap and reliable source of energy for ever.
Again with a very little knowledge and economical easy to install parts you could be up and running in no time.
Some years ago I installed a wood stove in a rural property a couple of miles from the grid.
The power company wanted a small fortune to run power and connect them.
As a result this very large prestige's house was run by both Solar and Wind power.
The owners where delighted with the results and although they did have an emergency diesel generator had never used it.
There are so many reasons to look at alternative energy sources these are just a few.
1)Renewable they will just go on and on with very little maintenance.
2)Cheap in many cases free after initial set up.
3)Freedom you cannot be disconnected any reason.
4)You reduce your carbon output and what ever you feel about global warming that can't be a bad thing.
5)The energy is clean.
Have you ever stood down wind of a coal fired power station.
6)We will have a better Planet 7)Lets face it you will feel good especially when a cheque comes in from the power company.
