A compact sport coupe, the Nissan Silvia made its debut at the Tokyo motor show in 1964. Production stopped in 1968, then restarted in 1974 when the Silvia was finally marketed in North America as the Datsun 200SX. The North American model eventually became known as the Nissan 240SX, and was produced until 1998. The Silvia S15 series was the last generation of Silvias, manufactured from 1998 to 2002. - The 1998 Nissan Silvia featured a 2.4-liter, double-overhead cam, in-line four-cylinder engine. It had 155 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 160 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm, with a 3.5-inch bore, a 3.8-inch stroke and a 9.5:1 compression ratio. The Silvia had a multi-point fuel injection system with a 17.2 gallon fuel tank. Its EPA estimated fuel efficiency was 28 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg in the city. The braking system consisted of four disc brakes, two of which were ventilated discs. The car had an independent, strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and an independent, multi-link rear suspension with coil springs.
- Exterior features of the 1998 Nissan Silvia included front and rear body-colored bumpers, externally adjustable body-colored door mirrors, a front body-colored spoiler and tinted windows. The car had conventional lens, halogen-bulb single headlights and windshield wipers with a fixed intermittent wipe. The exterior dimensions of the Silvia consisted of a 99.4-inch wheelbase, a 177-inch overall length, a 68-inch width and a 51-inch height. The curb weight measured 2,800 pounds.
