How to Get Rid of Small Black Flying Insects That Stay Around My Food
- 1). Clean the inside of the glass jar thoroughly. Fruit flies are attracted to the fragrance from foods left in the open, so having a clean jar without any residual odors will ensure that they smell the food in the trap.
- 2). Soak a slice of banana in balsamic vinegar and place in the jar.
- 3). Cover the jar with plastic wrap and tape the edges to create a secure seal.
- 4). Poke 5 to 10 holes in the plastic wrap with a pen. The holes are large enough for the flies to enter the jar. Once inside, they will not be able to find their way out.
- 5). Dispose of the unwanted insects. Placing the trap in the freezer for 15 to 30 minutes is a humane and environmentally friendly way to euthanize the captured fruit flies.
