Pottery Barn Kids Recalls Madeline Bed Canopy

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, Pottery Barn Kids announced this voluntary recall. Consumers are advised to stop using this product immediately. If you think you have purchased this Pottery Barn Kids product, here are the details:

Importer:


Pottery Barn Kids, which is a division of Williams-Sonoma Inc., of San Francisco, California.

Name of Recalled Product:


Madeline Bed Canopy.

Pottery Barn Kids previously sold the canopy separately as an option for the Madeline Bed.

Units Sold:


About 7,700 in units of this product were sold in the United States. An additional 230 units were sold in Canada.

Reason for Recall:


The connections of the posts to the top rails of the canopy can come apart, making it possible for components of the canopy to fall. This poses an impact hazard to users.

Incidents/Injuries:


There have been about 33 reports of components of the canopy falling. According to one report there a cut that required stitches due to to the product malfunction, and there were nine other reports of minor cuts, bruises and/or bumps.

 

Product Description:


The canopy is part of the Pottery Barn Kids Madeline Bedroom Collection.
  • Material:The canopy is made of wood
  • Components: The components consist of four posts that connect to the headboard and footboard of the bed, and four rails that connect to the top portion of each post.
  • Size: The canopy is available for twin-, full- and queen-sized Madeline Beds,


  • Colors: It comes in a variety of colors. The colors are white, antique white, blade green, Sun Valley blade green, Sun Valley light green and Sun Valley espresso.

Where Sold:


The Madeline Bed Canopy was available at Pottery Barn Kids stores nationwide, online at potterybarnkids.com and through Pottery Barn Kids catalogs from December 2003 until August 2011. When sold separately, the canopy sold for $150 to $300.

Remedy:


Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and remove the canopy from the bed. They should then contact Pottery Barn Kids to schedule a free repair.
