How to Troubleshoot a Freezer Icemaker
- 1). Check that the feeder arm isn't blocked or in the down position. The down position is often marked "Off." If there isn't a feeder arm, check that any paddles aren't blocked.
- 2). Test the water pressure if the output isn't acceptable enough. Pour water from the water dispensing device on the door into a measuring cup for 20 seconds. If the cup contains less than 13.5 ounces after 20 seconds, the pressure isn't good enough. Replace any filters in-line and test again.
- 3). Add food to the freezer to stop ice clumping. Freezers have a defrost function which sends heat into the freezer compartment. If there isn't any food there to absorb the heat, the ice will absorb it and melt slightly. When the defrost function stops, the ice refreezes and clumps.
- 4). Use the icemaker regularly to avoid clumping. A full ice bin is heavy and the weight can fuse the lower levels of ice.
- 5). Check the ice container is seated correctly. It should appear perpendicular to the freezer cabinet and should be directly under the icemaker to avoid overflowing ice.
