How to Cut Fiberglass Cloth

    • 1). Place a tape measure in the location where you will install the fiberglass cloth and measure the length and width that you need.

    • 2). Lay a piece of plywood on a worktable and place the fiberglass cloth roll on top of it. The area should be well lit. If necessary, place an additional table lamp near the surface so that you can clearly see the weave of the cloth.

    • 3). Transfer the measurements onto the fiberglass cloth using the tape measure and a pen to mark the areas that must be cut.

    • 4). Turn the fiberglass cloth so that the main roll is positioned at the top of the table. Look at the side of the cloth just above a pen mark and pick up a single strand with a pair of needle nose pliers. Pull the strand straight out from the side of the cloth until it comes completely out. You will see a visible gap in the cloth where the missing strand was previously located.

    • 5). Repeat the process to remove strands from any additional straight sides of the cloth that you will be cutting out. The number of strands you remove depends on the shape you are creating.

    • 6). Place a rotary cutter on top of the fiberglass cloth directly on one of the pen lines. Hold the fiberglass cloth with one hand and push the rotary cutter firmly over the pen line with the other. Keep the cutter in the gaps where the strands have been removed so the ends don't fray or buckle.

    • 7). Cut any remaining curved areas with a pair of sharp scissors.
