- 1). Remove the tire from a salvaged bike wheel. You can use a newer wheel or an antique wheel that is showing signs of rust, depending on the overall look you are going for. Make sure the wheel has all the spokes intact.
- 2). Cut varying lengths of twine to tie light bulbs to. The exact lengths that you use should ultimately be determined by the height of your ceiling. Use shorter lengths of twine if you have a low ceiling and longer lengths if you have a higher ceiling. The idea is for the light bulbs to hang above your head so that you are not walking into them after the chandelier has been hung.
- 3). Tie one end of the twine securely around the base of one light bulb. Add a small drop of superglue to reinforce. Tie the other end of the twine to one of the wheel's spokes. Continue attaching light bulbs to the wheel until you are satisfied with the look of the chandelier.
- 4). Attach a pendant lamp kit to the center of the wheel. Feed the cord through to the top of the wheel so you can plug it in later. If you want to use your chandelier for decorative purposes only you can skip this step.
- 5). Cut four 1-foot pieces of chain using a chain cutter. Secure one end of each chain to the top of the wheel by opening the end link and slipping the rim of the wheel through before re-closing the link. Space the chains equally around the rim of the wheel or your chandelier will hang off balance.
- 6). Find a stud in the ceiling using a stud finder. Screw an eye screw into the ceiling stud where you wish to hang the chandelier. Make sure the threads of the eye screw go at least 2 inches into the ceiling so it will be able to withstand the weight of the chandelier. Hang an S hook from the eye screws and loop the free ends of the chains over the hook.
