How to Disable an Alarm System
- 1). Enter the password at the control panel to disarm the alarm system. Remove the screws on the sides and bottom of the control panel with a Phillips screwdriver or a Torx screwdriver, depending on the make. Remove any padlocks or locking latches on the control panel.
- 2). Open the control panel. Detach the battery leads from the backup battery. Remove the battery. Pull the control panel's power cord out of an AC socket, if it is plugged into one; otherwise trip the appropriate fuse or circuit breaker to discontinue electric power to the control panel.
- 3). Disarm the wireless alarm system by entering the appropriate password into the control panel. Remove screws holding any wireless transmitters walls. Open the battery compartment lids on the backs of the transmitters and remove the batteries. Replace the lids on the transmitters. Remove the sensor plate screws from the windowsill or door frame to which they are attached. Store the transmitters and attached sensor plates.
- 4). Enter the password into the control panel to disarm the system. Trip the circuit breaker that supplies electrical power to the electric junction box that the alarm system's siren, alarm bell or horn are connected to. Remove the screws from around the siren, alarm bell or horn. Pull the siren, alarm bell or horn off the wall. Loosen the screws on the electric junction box. Twist off the wires around the screws by hand. Tighten the screws. Set the siren, alarm bell or horn aside. Return power to the siren, alarm bell or horn.
