  Through the use of a mailbox theme, teachers can successfully engage their students and impart basic academic lessons. Interactive bulletin boards serve as a creative way to motivate students to take an interest in the academic topics explored in class. Decorate your classroom with a colorful and attractive bulletin board to encourage them to practice their skills.
  
  

Mailbox Matchup

• Build an interactive bulletin board that allows students to test their inference and reading comprehension skills by creating a Mailbox Matchup. Prepare your board by covering the board's surface with solid-colored bulletin board paper or fabric. Select clip art or photographic images of people of various ages. Print these images onto card stock. Create a description of each person. For example, if you have an image of a little girl, you could write that her name is Sally, that she likes Barbies and that her favorite color is pink. Place the images along with the accompanying descriptions on the left side of the bulletin board, numbering each.
  
  Select a clip art image of a mailbox. Print one copy of this image per individual. Using coloring supplies or construction paper, decorate each mailbox to reflect one of the individuals described on the left side of your board. For example, you could create a hot pink mailbox for the girl who loves Barbies. Staple each distinctive mailbox along the right side of the bulletin board, labeling each with a letter.
  
  When students finish their work, allow them to review the bulletin board and pair up the individuals and the matching mailboxes.
  
  

Address Math Bulletin Boards

• Use mailboxes as a central theme for your math-related bulletin board. Cover your board surface with solid-colored fabric or bulletin board paper. Create mailbox cutouts using construction paper. On the front of each cutout, write a math problem at your students' level. Write the solution to each problem on the back of each mailbox. Attach the mailboxes to the board surface, stapling them at the top so that students can lift each mailbox to reveal the answer as they test themselves with the math problems.
  
  

Mailbox Ordering

• Create an interactive matching activity for your students to complete by building a Mailbox Ordering bulletin board. To create this bulletin board, cover the board surface with green fabric or bulletin board paper. Use black construction paper to create a road down the center of your bulletin board. Purchase or create small mailbox cutouts. Number each cutout. Place the mailbox cutouts in random order, attaching them to the bulletin board surface with thumb tacks. Using precut or hand-cut letters, place the title "Mailbox Ordering" on the top of the bulletin board surface. Type out instructions, creating a sheet that says, "Oh no! The mailboxes are out of order. Help the mailman out by putting the mailboxes in proper order."
  
  When students complete their work, allow them to go over to the bulletin board and attempt to put the mailboxes in the proper order.
