How to Treat Scratches on Arborite

    • 1). Buy a filler product, such as SeamFil, from a local home improvement store or from the store where you purchased your laminate. Bring a sample of your laminate with you so you're able to purchase a filler that's a similar color to your laminate. Ask a sales clerk to assist you — certain fillers may dry darker or lighter than they initially appear.

    • 2). Clean your countertop. Wipe away any food residue and wash it with kitchen cleaner or with the cleanser recommended on the filler packaging. Dry the countertop with paper towels or a cloth.

    • 3). Squeeze a 1-inch strip of filler onto a mixing board or piece of scrap laminate. Move the filler around with a putty knife until it starts to thicken.

    • 4). Apply a layer of filler that's approximately 1/16 inch over the scratch. Use a putty knife to distribute the filler over and into the scratch. Apply thin layers of filler until the entire scratch is filled.

    • 5). Use a wet cloth to wipe away filler on the surface around the scratch. The filler hardens to its full potential in two days. If the filler shrunk during the drying process, repeat the application to fill up the exposed area.
