- 1). Loosen and turn the soil in the tapioca bed to a depth of 12 to 18 inches. For individual trees, loosen an area of roughly 4 square feet.
- 2). Fertilize the soil with 1 oz. of 6-6-12 fertilizer per 100 square feet for food crops. The addition of fertilizer will increase the tapioca tree's yield. Tapioca trees grown for ornamental purposes do not need fertilizer. Tapioca trees will grow healthily and happily in most soil types.
- 3). Plant the stem section vertically so that it is covered by 2 to 4 inches of soil. Plant neighboring stems no closer than 4 feet.
- 4). Pat the soil down with your hands to firm it.
- 5). Water the soil with a gentle spray until it is moist to the depth of the planting.
