Steps to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
- 1). Inspect your home thoroughly to determine the location of the infestation. Bedbugs prefer dark, isolated places such as cracks and crevices on walls, beds or carpet baseboards. Although the bugs are not visible to the naked eye, you can look for fecal residue, a brownish-red staining on mattresses and other surfaces.
- 2). Vacuum all infected areas, using an attachment when necessary. Discard vacuum bags outside your home when finished.
- 3). Launder all infected linens in hot water and dry them in a hot dryer.
- 4). Treat stuffed animals, electronic devices and any other items that cannot be laundered by placing them in a sealed plastic bag for at least two or three days. According to Do It Yourself Pest Control, you can use Nuvan strips for added effectiveness.
- 5). Apply insecticides for serious infestations. Combine a pyrethrin-based dust spray with an aerosol insecticide for maximum control and penetration of cracks and crevices.
- 6). Contact a pest control company if the problem continues or worsens.
