    • 1). Try to make sure your laundry area isn’t close to your basement storage room. Running your dryer can heat up the area and raise the temperature in your storage room.

    • 2). Keep all windows in the basement closed during the hot parts of the day, particularly windows located in the storage room.

    • 3). Place curtains over the windows to keep the sun out. Basement windows tend to be near the ceiling, but the hot rays of the sun can still get through. Shades or curtains are a must.

    • 4). Install a ceiling fan in your basement storage room. Running the ceiling fan periodically, particularly during hotter parts of the day, can help keep the room cool.

    • 5). Keep the door of the storage room open if you have central air conditioning in your home. Most basement do not have vents, so keeping a door open will help circulate cool air from your home.
