Pull or cut the top off of a box. Cut away about half of one of the narrow sides. Stand the box upright and use it as a magazine holder. Set aside the cardboard you cut away from your freezer box. - 2). Use some of the excess cardboard you cut away as a bookmark. Cut the strips down further if they are excessively long or wide. Decorate your new bookmark with pens, markers and colored pencils.
- 3). Shred unprinted and uncolored freezer boxes for use as kindling in the fireplace. Avoid burning printed or coated cardboard because the inks can release cancer-causing heavy metals when burned.
- 4). Store small items in clean freezer boxes. Different sized boxes can hold pens, beauty supplies, hair accessories and more. Cut pieces from other boxes to use as dividers.
- 5). Send gifts and packages by mail in sturdy boxes. Choose freezer boxes made from thicker cardboard for the task so they won't get crushed in the mail.
- 6). Cut the top off of a box, fill it with shredded paper, and use it as a decorative gift box at holiday time. You might want to cover the sides of the box with paint or construction paper if it is printed, but the original design can look interesting as well.
- 7). Take any boxes that are damaged or otherwise unusable to your local recycling center. If your neighborhood has curbside pick-up of recyclable materials, you can simply leave the boxes in your recycling bin. Break the boxes down flat before sending them to the recycling center.
