How to Change a Windows Safari Theme

104 5
    • 1). Remove the FlyakiteOSX Safari Theme using the program's settings. If you downloaded the software program FlyakiteOSX (which gives a Windows computer the look of a Macintosh computer's Safari browser), use the program's settings to return the computer back to a normal Windows desktop appearance. Open the FlyakiteOSX program control panel and click on "Restore Windows Themes." Your Windows desktop should go back to normal.

    • 2). You may have another kind of safari theme installed, If so, you can turn it off and switch to a different theme. Go to "Start," "Control Panel" and "Display." The first tab in this section pertains to "Themes." Your current setting will be shown.

    • 3). Click on the drop-down menu and choose one of the other possibilities. The "Windows XP" theme will revert your desktop to the Windows XP standard "New Bliss" picture (a New Zealand hillside covered with grass), while the "Windows Classic" theme will revert to a neo-Windows98 plain blue desktop look. You may also see choices for "More Themes Online" (at Microsoft Plus!, now discontinued) and "Browse." Click on the XP or Classic theme, then "Apply" and "OK" to change the display theme immediately. You can also choose the "Browse" selection, but this will only point to your hard drive Themes file, if you have one. If you don't have a Themes file, this will be a dead end.

    • 4). Surf the Internet to find new Windows themes; there are literally thousands to choose from, but be cautious because some of these download sites and files will indeed be infected. Trapping unsuspecting users is a hallmark of "free cool" software like Themes. Stick to sites you've either heard of before or that are endorsed by a reviewer you trust.

    • 5). Make sure your real-time virus or spyware protection software is running before you click to download these theme files. If you receive a warning that the file is infected, abort the connection immediately.

    • 6). Download your preferred theme files. Windows theme files are normally kept in the C:/Windows/Resources folder on your hard drive, but you can store these downloads anywhere on your drive. Choose a file location that is easy to remember and won't clutter your Desktop.

    • 7). Go back to "Start," "Control Panel" and "Display," and click "Browse" from the drop-down menu. Navigate to the place where you stored the theme file and find the .theme item. Highlight the file, and then click "Open." Click "Apply" when the theme picture appears in the box and then "OK" to activate the theme. If you select "Cancel," the theme will not be installed and the desktop will revert to the prior theme.
