Westminster is the cultural cradle of London with famous landmarks such as the royal Buckingham Palace and historic chapel at Westminster Abbey. Located on the northern part of the River Thames in central London, Westminster is home to the attractions that draw visitors to this part of the world. According to the Lonely Planet Guide, you can experience the sights and sounds of the Houses of Parliament at the Palace of Westminster or have an English meal at one of the dozens of distinct pubs. - Surrounded by three royal palaces, St. James's Park is open to the public every day from 5 a.m. to midnight. With 58 acres, a lake that is home to ducks, pelicans and geese and the Mall, an open space used for royal ceremonies and parades, this park is enjoyed by all ages. Children will have fun on the playground, the daily pelican feedings at 2:30 p.m. and encounters with the free-roaming wildlife. Restrooms are located at the playground. The park has deck chairs available for rent March through October for lounging at 7 pounds per day. Families are welcome to bring in food for a picnic on the lawn. There is also the Inn the Park eatery offering snacks and meals, and four other food huts throughout the park are open year-round. Admission to the park is free.

royalparks.org.uk - Tate Britain is an art gallery sitting on the bank of River Thames, featuring a permanent collection of historic British art dating back to the 1500s. Opened in 1897, Tate Britain allows visitors into the main gallery free of charge, according to its website. Visiting hours at the museum are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and the only days the museum is closed are December 24 through 26. The Rex Whistler restaurant and Tate Britain Cafe sell snacks and meals to museum visitors. The museum also has seating throughout the galleries and a baby changing station near the cafe.
Artists on exhibit at Tate Britain include William Blake, illustrator of Dante's Divine Comedy, and English royal painter Thomas Gainsborough. Notable collections on display include 30,000 watercolors and sketches and 300 oil paintings by JMW Turner, Sir John Everett Millais' "Ophelia" and "The Lady of Shalott" by John William Waterhouse.

According to the Westminster Cathedral website, the church opened in 1903 and features Neo-Byzantine mosaic art. The public is invited to come into the cathedral for prayer and services, including confession, baptism, communion and marriage. Mass is held every day at six different times. The choir of Westminster Cathedral is considered one of the best anywhere and you can hear them during Solemn Mass at 10:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. every day. The Gift Shop in the cathedral sells literature, music CDs, crucifixes and rosaries of high quality and affordable prices, and proceeds go to support the cathedral.
