How to Encode MOV for the iPhone
- 1). Install HandBrake on your computer (see Resources). Open the program once the installation is complete.
- 2). Click "Source" and "Video File" to select the MOV file that you wish to convert.
- 3). Choose the preset "iPhone & iPod Touch" from the Apple presets; the preset menu is present on the right side of the program window. This preset defaults to MKV, which yields an M4V file. You can change the container type to MP4 from the "Container" drop-down menu.
- 4). Select a file name and destination for your file under "Destination."
- 5). Click the "Start" button on the top toolbar of the program. The encoding may take some time.
- 1). Install Videora on your computer (see Resources). Open the program once the installation is complete.
- 2). Select your iPhone from the initial set-up window; this allows Videora to anticipate your conversion needs.
- 3). Select "Video File" from beneath the "Convert" header. You can also get to the conversion page by selecting the "Convert" tab on the top of the screen and selecting the "Video File" tab below it.
- 4). Select a conversion mode; "Normal" will be easy for new users who don't know too much about video files.
- 5). Choose the MOV file that you wish to convert; the option to select the file will display on the bottom half of the screen.
- 6). Choose a directory to save your converted file to; Videora selects "My Documents\Red Kawa\Videos" by default, but you can select your own folder by clicking "Browse." Click the orange "Next" button.
- 7). Fill in a file name for your converted file. Click "Next."
- 8). Modify the video settings to your choosing from the slider bars on the top half of the screen. Once you've made the desired modifications, click the "Next" button.
- 9). Click the "Start Converting" button on the lower, right corner of the screen. The conversion may take some time; you can click "View Conversion Process" to see how far the conversion has gone and the estimated time until completion.
- 1). Install MediaCoder on your computer (see Resources). Open MediaCoder once the installation is complete. MediaCoder will minimize the program to your system tray by default. Click the icon to open the program.
- 2). Go to "File" and "Add File" to select the MOV file that you wish to convert. You can also do this by clicking the "Add" button on the toolbar and selecting "Add File."
- 3). Change the file type by clicking the "Container" tab on the lower half of the screen and choosing "MP4" from the drop-down menu. MediaCoder does not offer M4V container format.
- 4). Click the "Start" button at the end of the toolbar on the top of the screen. This begins the conversion process. MediaCoder saves the video in My Documents with the same name as the original MOV file.
