How to Remove a Home Intercom
- 1). Turn off the electricity to the room with the main intercom system. Typically, there is a main system in the primary living area, a secondary main located in the master bedroom and small satellite boxes in bedrooms and at exterior doors. Remove the plastic cover of the intercom. Use a voltmeter to touch the wires in order to be sure there is no power going to the system.
- 2). Unscrew the system and remove it. Separate the power wires carefully. Place the intercom aside.
- 3). Install a retrofit electrical box against the stud where the intercom box was mounted. Insert the wires into the box and place a wire cap over each wire. Tuck the wire safely into the box and close the box.
- 4). Repeat Steps 1 to 3 at each intercom location, making sure the power is off and that the wires are dead when you handle them.
