How to Get Rid of Fleas in Your House with Salt

    • 1). Use a vacuum with a bag-as opposed to a bagless vacuum-to go over your carpets before you get rid of fleas in your house with salt. Use attachments to get into the nooks where the tool can't reach, such as close to baseboards, on furniture and under the beds. Concentrate on areas where your pets play and sleep or where you've noticed the flea infestation activity.

    • 2). Launder fabric items that rest on the floor where fleas may be breeding, such as pet bedding, area rugs or blankets that your children rest on while watching television, for example.

    • 3). Get rid of fleas in your house with salt by opening the container and sprinkling a thick layer of salt over the entire carpet, under furniture, inside closets and close to the baseboards. Apply the salt in "rows" to ensure you don't miss any spots. Repeat the natural flea control process in each of your rooms, even if you don't suspect a flea infestation in some of the rooms. Flea eggs may be dormant there, waiting to hatch when the weather turns warmer.

    • 4). Let the salt sit in your home for at least 12 hours. The substance will settle down at the base of the carpet to "dry up" the fleas. Vacuum the house again to remove the salt, dead fleas and "flea dirt."

    • 5). Repeat the process ten days later in the event there were any flea eggs leftover from the flea infestation that were unaffected by the first round of salt.
