Bringing Your New Pet Ferret Home

103 25
It is always exciting to bring a new pet into our home, it does not matter what kind of animal it is, there are always a few things we need to sort out to get prepared for their arrival.
These things are best done before we even pick up our new family addition.
The more we are prepared, the easier and happier the move is for our new addition.
So what will we need to do, when we are bringing home a bundle of fun such as a ferret.
A very important thing to have ready is a suitable cage, it will need to be big enough to house our new friend comfortably.
It will need to be kitted out with a bedding area that will provide comfort and safe sleeping, they love their sleep.
There will need to be a bowl for both food and water and also a litter area that is best separate from the other two areas and do not forget a few safe toys to welcome them into their new home.
A good question to ask the person you are getting your furry friend from, is what food they have been using to feed the little guy.
You can then have the same food they are use to ready and waiting for the home coming.
If you are not happy with the food, you can gradually phase it out and replace it with the food of your choice.
It is not best practice to make a sudden change with their food.
Mix the old and the new with the old being the higher content and gradually change this until the old food is phased out all together.
It is best to have one member of the family handle the home coming, this way it makes it less intimidating for your new ferret.
They may want to get use to their own little home before finding out about the bigger home and the people that live in it.
So let them have some space to settle into their cage before the whole family get involved.
Once the little guy seems happy with the surroundings, you can then start to introduce the rest of the family and let him out to explore on a wider scale.
Your new family member will soon get to know the whole family and will be exploring more than you expected.
These little fur balls love to have fun and tear around with a huge amount of energy, so your new pet will be playing among the family before you know it and will enjoy the interaction.
So do get some safe toys for your little fur ball as they love toys and they will also help them to settle in their new home.
These are just a few of the basic things you will need to sort out before you bring your new friend home, there are other things you can do, but as long as these few things are ready and in place then you will help to make your new ferrets home coming a smooth and less traumatic experience.
