    Create the Template

    • 1). Determine the dimensions of your particular model of iPod. These can be found by researching the "tech specs" for your iPod model or by simply measuring the height, width and depth of the iPod.

    • 2). Add 1/4 inch to each dimension of the measurement.

    • 3). Use the height and width measurements to trace a template design on a piece of card stock or other strong paper material. Do this twice; these two rectangular shapes will serve as the front and back of the iPod cover.

    • 4). Measure and trace the height and depth measurements onto the card stock. Do this twice; these two thin rectangular shapes will serve as the sides of the iPod cover.

    • 5). Place one of the rectangular templates over the screen of the iPod and turn the iPod on. This will cause the light of the screen to shine through and allow you to trace around where the screen and click wheel are located.

    • 6). Use a razor blade to carefully cut around the traced parts on the template pieces.

    Assemble the Template

    • 1). Lay the template pieces on a table. Place the card stock that will serve as the front of the iPod on the far left, a thin side piece beside it, followed by the back piece, and the final side piece. Make sure they are lined up to each other.

    • 2). Use a clear tape, such as packing tape, to connect the four pieces. Cut the tape as needed to avoid covering the click wheel and screen openings. This tape will be covered by duct tape, so it doesn't need to look perfect. End by connecting the far right piece to the far left piece. You should now have the body of your iPod cover.

    • 3). Using duct tape, begin covering the case so no card stock is visible. Depending upon the desired appearance, you can choose to use large strips of tape at a time or cut it into several small pieces. Avoid covering the click wheel and screen openings by fastening the tape to the inside of the openings.

    • 4). Slide the iPod into the case.

    • 5). Continue covering in duct tape, avoiding covering the headphone jack, hold button, dock connector, screen and click wheel.
