    • 1). Enroll for a tax preparation class. You may take the course at one of Florida's community colleges, such as Broward College and the College of Central Florida. Tax preparation courses are also available online at websites like The Income Tax School and through finance companies like Liberty Tax, Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block.

    • 2). Complete the course. Expect the duration of the program to vary depending on where you take the course. Generally, online tax courses are more flexible and you can complete them at your own pace. A course at one of Florida's community colleges may last one or more semesters, and there will be an exam at the end to test your knowledge. Tax preparation companies offer training that may last from 11 weeks to three months. Note that there is no licensing exam for tax preparers in Florida.

    • 3). Obtain employment as a tax preparer. At the end of your training, you may wish to work for a tax preparation company or start your own business. Some tax professionals choose to acquire experience while working for an established company before creating their own business.
