- 1). Turn your phone over so you can view the information printed at the back of the phone. There should be an Apple logo in silver and "iPhone" etched under it. There should also be a model number, an FCC ID if the phone was bought in the United States and an IC ID number. All iPhones must have a line that says "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China."
- 2). Check the buttons on the iPhone, as all models of the phone possess the same structure of buttons. There always is a round button just below the touchscreen, a sleep or wake button at the very top of the phone, a button for regulating the volume located on the left side, a mute button or switch above that. Any buttons other than those mean the phone is a fake.
- 3). Look out for network carriers. IPhones can be unlocked and used on any other network, but in the United States iPhones sold and sealed in the box should only be compatible with the AT&T carrier. If anything shows that the phone is compatible with other U.S. networks, there is a greater chance the phone is not genuine.
- 4). Check for Apple-licensed applications (apps). You should be able to see certain apps which come by default with the iPhone operating system, including iTunes, an iPod utility and the App store. IPhones do not leave the factory without these applications, and they cannot be deleted.
- 5). Check the design. All iPhones share similarities in design .They all have a rounded back except the new iPhone 4G, which is rectangular and flat at the back. The color of the casing is usually black or white, except the first generation, which came in silver. Any other colors mean the phone is a fake.
