The things one passes along this natural path
It must have been a miracle for them getting here
Someone must be missing this item
A fancy pair of shoe hanging on a tree limb
Must have left in a hurry; barefooted?
There are no bear tracks visible
The trees have no markings of beer claws
Only this trail goes this way; what lies ahead?
Imagination going wild, nothing in sight
There must be something in disguise
It's summer time and the trail is clear
Unlike winter, where snow and leaves are mixed;
Yes! A cigarette butt with lipsticks
Red colored too, it looks rich
There is no stubbing on the front like it was crushed
It's still round and not flat; not stepped on
The trees and leaves are still green
Yet no signs of fire marks on the trees
Along the trail what will there be to find?
Ahead, birds scratching away in the leaves
There must be something there
Buried cans; the raccoons arrived first
An ant nest next to the scratching birds
Black and red ones carrying food back home
Just amazing, this buried spot is found
Nothing can hide from nature along the trail;
It's leading to an opening in the woods
This must be a resting spot
No life forms in sight, yet a warm stove
Ashes not completed cold
Someone was here recently
Left the fire burning, so sad, could have been bad
Caught it at the right moment and time;
Along the trail; somewhere it vanishes
Ending quietly-disappearing
Where did it go; into thin air one must guess
This is safe-no bears!
Mountain lions gone
Snakes must be asleep
Only beautiful butterflies in sight
Grasshoppers and crickets are out too
They are having fun, jumping, flying, chirping
At the end of this breathtaking trail!
