- 1). Verify the "System Restore" process is active. Select "Start". Select "Control Panel" from the menu. Select "Administrative Tools." Select "Computer Management." Select "Continue" for any prompts that appear. Click the arrow next to "Services and Applications" and select "Services."
- 2). Verify that the status of "System Restore" is set to "Started" and "Automatic." If it is turned off, right-click "System Restore." Select "Start" from the pop-up menu. Select "Automatic" from the "System Restore Service Properties" box.
- 3). Check your hard drive's available space. "System Restore" requires at least 200 MB of free space to function properly. Less than that will cause the computer to not start the "System Restore" process and potentially not create the restore point. Delete all unnecessary programs to increase the space on your hard drive.
- 4). Select another restore point, if available. Your most recent restore point may have become corrupted.
- 5). Verify that it has not been 90 days since your last "System Restore." Any restore point older than 90 days is automatically deleted by the program.
