How to Put Laundry in a Basket

    • 1). Place all your dirty laundry in a large pile in the corner of a room with plenty of floorspace. Look under sofas, beds and in closet corners to make sure you've collected all the dirty clothes.

    • 2). Separate your laundry into darks, lights and whites. If you have a particularly large amount of laundry, separate it further, placing reds, browns and golds in one pile and blues, greens and light greys in another.

    • 3). Place underwear and socks in a separate basket. Place denim in its own pile, since it needs different wash and dry settings.

    • 4). Strip your bed sheets and gather any dirty towels, napkins and other linens. Divide them into darks, lights and whites as well.

    • 5). Place your divided loads into your laundry basket in opposite order you want to wash them. For instance, if white underwear are the last things you're going to wash, place them in the basket first. If you're trying to reduce clutter and don't have a preference, wash the largest loads first.

    • 6). Place extra loads in a second and even third basket, if necessary. Keep the loads you want to wash on top. Consolidate baskets as you work so they take up less space in your home until the laundry's finished and put away.
