But there's a twist to this character. He's not just trying to win back his wife's heart in a sensible, logical way. In fact, a sort of love-spell has come over him, and David behaves in a way that is very unlike his usual ways.
Normally, he's a low-key mechanic who is more comfortable working on cars than talking to people. In this scene, however, he burst out of his self-conscious shell and pulls every romantic trick in the book.
