Ford Motor Companies manufactured the Excursion from 2000 to 2005. A full-sized SUV that can seat nine passengers comfortably, this vehicle is one of the longest and heaviest SUVs ever produced. In 2005, the Excursion was offered in four trim levels: XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. All models were well equipped with standard features, but higher trim levels offered better sound systems and heated seats.

    Engine

    • The 2005 Excursion is available with three engines, but only one uses diesel fuel: the 6L V8. With a 32-valve overhead valve system, this engine displaces 5,954 cubic centimeters. The 18.0:1 compression ratio, 3.74-inch bore and 4.13 inch stroke contribute to its 325 horsepower and 560 foot-pounds of torque. The motor is turbocharged with a five-speed automatic transmission, and its fuel tank can hold 44 gallons.

    Exterior

    • All models of the 2005 Excursion are 226.7 inches long, 79.9 inches wide and 80.2 inches tall. They have a front track of 68.4 inches and a rear track of 68.1 inches. Clearing the ground by 8.1 inches, they have a cargo bed of 64 inches in length and 52.2 inches in width at the wheel well. The four-wheel-drive models have a turning diameter of 50.4 feet and weigh 7,725 pounds, while the two-wheel-drive models can turn in a circle with a 46.8-foot diameter, and weigh 7,234 pounds.

All models have four doors, running boards, automatic headlights, power windows, heated mirrors, tinted glass, interval wipers, a rear wiper, a rear window defogger and a towing package.

    Interior

    • All models provide 41 inches of front headroom, 42.3 inches of front legroom, 68.3 inches of front shoulder room and 67.5 inches of front hip room. In the rear, they offer 41.1 inches of headroom, 40.5 inches of legroom, 67 inches of shoulder room and 66.9 inches of hip room.

Standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, a tachometer, tilt steering, a leather steering wheel with mounted controls, a radio and CD player, cargo tie-downs, and an exterior load-bearing rack. Higher trim levels offer rear audio controls, power adjustable pedals and heated front seats. You could opt to buy a six-disc CD changer or a DVD entertainment system as well.
