Give Appliances Away

• 1). Call a charitable organization and see if they could use your used appliance. The appliance must be in working order. Some organizations that offer appliance drop-offs include Goodwill, The Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, the American Council of the Blind, and Habitat for Humanity.
  
  
• 2). Use an online marketplace to sell or give away old appliances. Nonprofit movements like Freecycle connect multiple charities through an online database. You can search your area for people needing used appliances.
  
  
• 3). Check with your appliance dealer to see if it is willing to pick up the used appliance. If you are buying a new washer, the dealer may include removal of the old appliance, or offer removal for a fee.
  
  

Recycle

• 1). Call your local government recycling department to set up a garbage pickup. Most municipalities will allow you to arrange appliance pickups outside your home during normal trash pickup times. Some places may not pick up outside your home, but will offer a local drop-off spot where you can leave the appliance.
  
  
• 2). Contact your local waste pickup company. It may have a local disposal facility where you can drop off appliances.
  
  
• 3). Ask about the prerequisites for appliance recycling. For instance, some appliances must have their doors removed. This needs to be done correctly before you can dispose of appliances.
  
  
• 4). Ask the government recycling agency about a tax rebate or bounty program for recycling old appliances. Companies like JACO Environmental, ARCA Inc. and CSG offer incentives in the form of cash or credit toward Energy Star replacement appliances, just for getting rid of used appliances.
