How to Make a Payment to a Bankruptcy Trustee
- 1). Look at your Notice of Appointment of Trustee received from the court. This notice contains important information for paying the trustee, such as his name and address.
- 2). Find your bankruptcy docket number on the bankruptcy case paperwork.
- 3). Ask your trustee what payment methods he accepts. Some trustees access electronic payments or automatic debits, while others require cashier's or money orders mailed in.
- 4). Set up electronic or automatic payments through the bankruptcy court's website, if this method is available. Otherwise, write your full name and the bankruptcy docket number on your check or money order.
- 5). Mail your payment, if applicable, to the bankruptcy trustee before your due date every month. The trustee distributes the money received to your creditors to pay down your debt. Your debts are not fully discharged until you complete your three- or five-year repayment plan established under the Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing.
