IPhone Touch Type Instructions
- 1). Find an application that uses the touch type feature. Virtually all applications do so at one time or another, though some use it more extensively than others. Notes, Mail and Messages all use touch type and all come pre-installed on the iPhone. Press the application icon of your choice. This opens the application.
- 2). Open a field that requires you to enter text. In Notes, press the "+" symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. In Mail, press the icon that looks like a square with a pen inside it in the lower right-hand corner. In Messages, this same icon is in the upper left-hand corner. In all cases, a new field opens displaying the area in which your text will appear and a keyboard below it.
- 3). Type your desired text by pressing the keyboard buttons with your thumb or forefinger. When you press a key, the key enlarges confirming your selection and the text appears in the field. To access numbers, punctuation or symbols press the key in the lower left-hand corner of the keyboard labeled ".?123." A new list of characters appears on the keyboard. To go back to letters press the lower left-hand button, now labeled "ABC." To capitalize a character, press the up arrow key just above the ".?123" key. This highlights the arrow indicating that the next letter you press will appear as a capital.
- 4). Turn the phone sideways to enlarge the keyboard. This widens the keyboard so that it occupies the entire side of the screen. You can now hold the phone with two hands and use both your thumbs to type. This method helps with longer messages or when fast typing is desired.
