Keeping Your Home and Possessions Safe While You"re on Holiday

Whether you're off on your annual summer holiday, fancy a weekend away or are heading off somewhere nice for the Christmas break, we all get pretty excited about getting away for a bit.
The only problem is that as much as we try not to, it can be difficult not to worry about the security of our homes and prized possessions.
Although you can never 100% guarantee anything, below are some great tips to help keep your home and the things in it safe and secure whilst you're on your travels.
Let the neighbours know Let your neighbours know when you're going to be away so they can keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour.
If you do fall victim to intruders and your neighbours don't know you're away then they're not going to think anything of people being in your house.
If they know you're not around however they can raise the alarm and potentially save your home from getting broken into.
Keep the lights on Admittedly it's not very economical or environmentally friendly but well-lit houses are far less likely to be broken into than those that are in complete darkness.
If burglars notice that the lights haven't been turned on for days then they're going to realise that the owners are away and take this opportunity to break in.
Aside from guaranteeing no interruptions, a house in complete darkness provides perfect cover as your neighbours and passers-by won't notice a thing.
Motion sensor lighting on the exterior of your home acts as a huge deterrent because it allows burglars to be spotted easily and will also raise suspicions amongst neighbours if they know you're away.
Also consider installing plug socket timers for your lamps so they can go on and off when you set them.
As well as being better for your bank balance and your carbon footprint, it gives a more believable impression that someone is there rather than leaving the lights on 24/7.
Secure the back of your home It's pretty unlikely that any burglar is going to be brazen enough to try to break into your home through the front of the property - yet this is often the most secure part of our house.
Ensure that you have motion sensor lighting at the back of your house and in your garden, have a secure side gate that nobody can access other than you, ensure that your home is securely fenced in around the back and make sure that all windows and doors at the rear of your home and secured tightly.
Put valuables in self storage If you have anything of high value or extreme sentimental value in your home then it may be worth considering putting them into self storage while you're away.
This way you can be 100% confident that your possessions are safe and you can enjoy a worry-free holiday.
