So your old boiler has finally kicked the bucket and now you need a new one. Before you go rushing into any store or accepting any quote for a new boiler, consider these tips first.

What purpose did your boiler serve? Was it merely for heating your home? Or was it used in combination for your potable water as well. Perhaps it has some special use as in heating your driveway to melt the snow during winter. These questions are important to ask because they will give you a good idea what sort of boiler you need. Let's go through these in more depth.

If your boiler system was used solely for heating your home, you might want to consider converting to a heating system that does both heating and potable water. The advantage is that instead of having two appliances that serve two purposes, you can have a single appliance that does both. This can result to increase energy saving and not mention will take up a less room in your boiler room. If you choose to go with this option, a combo boiler is your choice.

Boiler can provide a lot of benefits besides heating your home and as we just discussed potable water. They can use for special uses as in heating your drive way and providing hot water for your hot tub and pool. If you use hot water for any of these special uses besides heating and potable water, you must make sure the boiler you select can serve these purposes.

Something else you should consider is the boiler's efficiency. Different boilers have different efficiency rates. A boiler's efficiency is determined in its capability to transfer heat into the house. Some boiler are very good at ensuring a high amount of heat it produces is absorbed into the water and transferred throughout your home. Other boiler have a significant amount of that heat wasted  as it is poorly absorbed by the water and it escapes out the flu vent (chimney). The more heat that isn't absorbed by the water, the more has to be produced in order to heat the home, resulting in a higher hydro bill. Considering efficiency rate can save you hundreds of dollars down the road.

The final consideration is to ensure that the boiler can make the heating demands of the household. This is a technical procedure and you should have a technician correctly size the boiler to ensure the boiler you purchase will meet your needs.
