The advantage is that instead of having two appliances that serve two purposes, you can have a single appliance that does both. Other boiler have a significant amount of that heat wasted  as it is poorly absorbed by the water and it escapes out the flu vent (chimney). The more heat that isn't absorbed by the water, the more has to be produced in order to heat the home, resulting in a higher hydro bill. Considering efficiency rate can save you hundreds of dollars down the road.

The final consideration is to ensure that the boiler can make the heating demands of the household. This is a technical procedure and you should have a technician correctly size the boiler to ensure the boiler you purchase will meet your needs.
