My iPod Won't Play Songs

    Update your iPod

    • 1). Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of the iPod and plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB port.

    • 2). Open the iTunes program on your computer and click the iPod icon in the source panel of iTunes, on the left of the screen.

    • 3). Select the "Check for Update" button underneath the "Version" section, located in the "Summary" tab in iTunes.

    • 4). Click the "Update Now" button if an update is available and follow the on-screen instructions to update your device.

    Manage iTunes authorization

    • 1). Open the iTunes program on your computer and click "Store" at the top of the iTunes menu.

    • 2). Select "Deauthorize Computer" and click "Deauthorize computer for Apple account." Type in your Apple ID or AOL screen name, enter your password and click "OK."

    • 3). Click "Store" at the top of the iTunes menu and click "Authorize Computer" from the sub-menu.

    • 4). Enter your Apple ID or AOL screen name and password and click the "Authorize" button to enable authorization. Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of the iPod and plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB port.

    • 5). Click "File" at the top of the iTunes menu, and select "Sync iPod" from the sub-menu.

    Restore iPod

    • 1). Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of the iPod and plug the other end into the USB slot on your computer.

    • 2). Open iTunes and click the iPod icon in the iTunes' source panel on the left of the screen. Select the "Restore" button in the "Summary" section of iTunes, and click "Restore" on the pop-up box.

    • 3). Leave the iPod plugged in until the restoration process completes and the iPod Setup Wizard window opens.

    • 4). Click "Next" or "Continue" in the iPod Setup Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your iPod as a new device.

    • 5). Click the "Music" tab in the main iTunes window and check the box next to "Sync Music." Select "Entire music library" or "Selected playlists, artists or genres." Check the box next to the music you wish to add if you've selected the latter option, and click the "Apply" button.
