How to Install Home Outdoor Security Cameras
- 1). Find an unobstructed viewing area for your security cameras on the eaves of your house. Typically, most homes are built leaving a space near the top of the wall and the joists of the house. This area is perfect for running the power cable through to the power supply.
- 2). Attach the cameras to the outside of the home per the manufacturer's instructions. Some cameras may have a bracket-mounting system or mechanical swivel mount. Make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions thoroughly while hanging or mounting cameras.
- 3). Use the RG59 Siamese cable to run power for your security cameras. Run the cable through the attic or crawlspace of the house and try to find an existing hole to run the cable through to the room where the DVR and monitor will be kept. You may have to drill a hole.
- 4). Connect your cable lines to a power supply box, then separately connect the power supply box to a receptacle in your home.
- 5). Connect the cables to your DVR, and then connect the monitor to your DVR and plug them into a separate power source with a surge protector. If a separate power source is not available, you can use your power supply box.
- 6). Modify the angle and focus of your security cameras after you have video on the monitor to ensure proper security viewing. This step may require the help a second person.
