How to Cut Gutters
- 1). Place the gutter upside down on a piece of wood, or the ground.
- 2). Make a line where you want to cut the gutter. Make the line as straight as possible, and continue the line down the sides of the gutter.
- 3). Hold the gutter in place with your off-hand and place the hacksaw on top of the line.
- 4). Work the hacksaw back and forth until it cuts through the metal. It may be easier to start the saw on a slight angle and to cut through a corner first. Then the cut section will help align your saw as you cut through the rest. Make sure the hacksaw is cutting along the line that you drew.
- 1). Place the gutter on a board and turn it over so you are looking down on the bottom of the gutter. If your gutter is already hung, ignore this -- but the process will be a bit tougher.
- 2). Put the downspout outlet piece on top of the gutter where you want it to go. Draw a ring with your pen around the outlet. Remove the outlet.
- 3). Drill a 1/2-inch hole into the oval or circle depending on your outlet type.
- 4). Place the blades of the tin snips into the circle and use them to cut the gutter. Work your way to the outline that you drew, and then work your way around the outline until you have finished the hole.
