Top Places to Visit in Honolulu

Honolulu Hawaii conjures up beaches, sunshine, surfing and World War II.
It certainly is all those things but much, much more.

1. The USS Arizona Memorial is built over the structure of the battleship sunk on Dec 7, 1941, in which over 1,100,sailors were lost.
   Originally, there was a platform built around the structure jutting out of the water.
   In May 1962, the permanent exhibit was dedicated to the heroes who gave their lives.
   
2. The Honolulu Zoo occupies 42 acres and contains over 900 animals from the tropic zones.
   There are excellent exhibits, especially for families, where children can interact with the animals.
   There are seminars and animal feedings that the whole family can enjoy.
   There is also a beautiful Botanical Garden, where one can wander among the beautiful trees and plants.
   A charming restaurant and a fabulous gift shop make it possible to spend the whole day in this great zoo.
   
3. The Iolani Palace was built in 1882 by a prince who later became King Kalakaua.
   The palace is one of the most unique and decorated in the US.
   A charming bookshop provides one with books and artifacts of this ornate palace.
   
4. The Waikiki Aquarium contains over 3,500 marine animals from over 500 species.
   The aquarium is built adjacent to a beautiful coral reef, providing a natural environment for this wonderful variety of sea life.

5. The Pacific Aviation Museum houses over 35 restored vintage airplanes, many from World War II.
   There is a lovely restaurant where one can enjoy a snack or lunch while viewing historic airplanes.
   One can also see the restoration area where the planes are restored.

6. The Lyon Arboretum contains over 200 acres of 5,000 exotic trees, shrubs and beautiful flowers in a tropical rain forest habitat.
   With over 165 inches of rain annually, the weather is perfect for this great garden.
   A delightful gift shop offers books on botany as well as excellent articles to remember this beautiful arboretum.
   
7. The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum contains over 24.
   7 million artifacts of the history of this great state.
   It is dedicated to the former Senator Daniel K.
   Inouye and contains many exhibits on the culture of Hawaii.
   There is a charming restaurant and bookstore so that it is easy for one to spend the whole day.
