How to Make Voluminous Curly Hair
- 1). Wash your hair with shampoo tailored to your hair type. Avoid using conditioner, if possible; this only weighs your hair down and makes it silky. Heavy, silky hair is harder to maintain curl. Apply a styling gel to the hair and comb through to distribute.
- 2). Spray your hair with a heat-protectant spray. In addition to protecting your hair against the heat from the curlers, the spray also combats ultraviolet rays throughout the day. Comb the spray through the hair to distribute evenly.
- 3). Heat rollers to the hottest setting to roll dry hair. Wet hair should not be rolled with hot rollers; use Velcro rollers instead.
- 4). Create a part down the center of your head. The rollers start at the bang area and work their way back toward the crown. Once you reach the crown, create rows of curlers down the back and sides of your head. Comb a section of hair the same width as the roller upward, and apply a small amount of styling gel to the hair. Wrap the roller around the end of the hair and roll the curler down to the scalp. Pin the curler to the scalp using roller clips or bobby pins. Repeat throughout the hair.
- 5). Spray the rollers with a light-hold hairspray. Wet hair should be left in the rollers until the hair is dry. You can speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer set to medium-heat. Dry hair using hot rollers can leave the rollers in for 20 minutes, or until the rollers cool completely.
- 6). Remove the rollers. Use your fingers or a paddle brush to pull through the hair. Spray the hair with hairspray to maintain the volume. In addition, spray the hair with an anti-frizz serum to combat frizz and add shine.
