How to Decorate a Cake With a Balloon Design

    • 1). Place one 8-inch cake layer in the center of a serving plate. Frost the layer with 1/2 cup of white frosting.

    • 2). Set aside 1/4 cup of white frosting into a small bowl. Tint the remaining frosting a pale blue by adding blue food coloring, drop by drop. Stir the frosting and food coloring together after every drop until you get the desired sky color.

    • 3). Place the second cake layer on top of the first. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the blue frosting.

    • 4). Make cloud shapes on the top of the cake with the reserved white icing.

    • 5). Snip the sticks off seven colored lollipops. Arrange the lollipops on top of the cake in a bunch, like a bunch of balloons.

    • 6). Lay one licorice string from the bottom of each lollipop toward one edge of the cake. Use these strings to make a bunch of balloon strings in the design. Let the opposite ends of the licorice strings trail off the surface of the cake and down one side.
