- 1). Reformat your PC's hard drive. This is quite an extreme solution, but if you are going to regularly transfer files that are larger than 4 GB to your hard drive, it might be quicker to reformat your hard drive once than to follow other solutions several times. You will need to back up your data first and make sure you reformat your hard drive in the NTFS format.
- 2). Use an external storage drive. If you need to use your files on a PC, but you don't want to use them directly from the DVD, you can transfer them from the DVD to an external device -- such as a hard drive or a USB memory stick -- and use them on your PC through this device. This will be faster than accessing them from the DVD and gives you the option to edit and save them to the device, which you cannot do on a DVD.
- 3). Split or compress the files. This requires an external device to temporarily store them. Transfer your file to the external device, compress it or split it into multiple files, and then transfer it to your hard drive. If the file is a video, compressing it will not work because would need to expand it again to watch it on your hard drive. You cannot do this because of its size, but you can find many programs that can be used to split video files.
