    • 1). Find an example fraction with a negative integer exponent. For this example, let the expression be (3/4)^-2, which is 3/4 raised to the power of -2.

    • 2). Calculate the reciprocal of the fraction by switching placement of the numerator and denominator. For this example, the reciprocal of 3/4 is 4/3.

    • 3). Change the exponent's sign to positive. For this example, -2 becomes 2. The expression is now (4/3)^2, which is 4/3 raised to the second power.

    • 4). Solve the expression like a normal exponent. For this example, (4/3)^2 becomes 4/3 * 4/3, which is 16/9.
