Irrigation - An Ear Wax Removal Home Remedy
Go and get one of those cotton swabs 2.
Root around till the earwax build up inside comes out.
At least, so it seems.
But the truth is, while some of the excessive ear wax comes out, a lot more gets pushed down inside when you do that.
In fact, it can get so the impacted ear wax (the wax that's now pushed up against your ear drum) begins to cause even worse problems, including plugging up the ear canal so that you can't hear anymore.
Another problem with using Q-tips as an ear wax cleaner is that you can remove too much earwax.
It used to be that people thought ear wax was useless, a leftover from a previous era in human history.
Then some studies started to show that not only does ear wax protect the ear from dust and debris, it even has some anti-bacterial properties.
It's even been found to kill Staph bacteria, a real nasty one that's responsible for everything from boils to pneumonia.
So having some wax in the ear is actually a good thing.
But between 2% to 6% of the U.
S.
population has the problem of needing to remove ear wax because their bodies make too much of the good stuff.
In those cases, there are a number of wax-removal home remedy methods you can try that don't involve the use of a Q-tip.
One such method is what's known as "irrigation" of the ear.
Depending on the amount of type of earwax you have, the first step of this is to place 2 or 3 drops of warmed (not hot) oil in the ear 2 times a day.
Lie on your side with the affected ear up, and let the oil slide down inside the ear canal.
The purpose of this is to "melt" the wax build up from its position lodged inside your ear.
Once you've done this for a few days, you are ready for the "irrigation" part of the procedure.
You can use a special irrigation syringe for this, or just one of the blue rubber bulb syringes commonly sold at pharmacies.
Fill it with warm water (again, not hot) and squirt it into your ear (this is best done in the shower, where the water can flow freely out).
After doing this a few times, you should feel the ear wax build up come out, and you should be able to hear better, too.
Just be sure not to stick anything too far inside your ear, as you can cause a lot of damage that way.
