Candida & Yeast Diet
- Restrict certain foods with a special diet--a very effective way to stop candida yeast overgrowth. The most important foods to eliminate are those that contain dairy, yeast, wheat, processed sugars, alcohol and caffeine. You should also avoid any meats that have been exposed to chemicals or man-made hormones. In addition, stay away from processed foods, as well as any food that contains hydrogenated fats such as margarine and peanut butter. Mold fungi in the form of mushrooms should also be stricken from your diet. Foods high in mercury such as tuna, shellfish, shark and swordfish should also be eliminated.
- Eat organic, whole foods to battle yeast infections. Your diet should be 20 percent to 30 percent protein in the form of beef, liver, sausage, buffalo, goat, lamb, pork, poultry, fish, nuts, seeds and eggs. You should make 50 percent to 60 percent of your diet high-fiber, low-starch vegetables including asparagus, broccoli, celery, onion, radish, garlic, cabbage and turnips. Another 10 percent to 20 percent of your diet should be complex carbohydrates in the form of beans, rice and other grains. A small portion (5 percent to 10 percent) of your diet can be fruits including lemons, limes, pineapple, papaya, grapefruit and various types of berries. The remainder (about 5 percent) should consist of polyunsaturated or omega-3 fats including coconut, olive, grape seed and flax seed oils. Raw nuts including pecans, almonds, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds are also OK to eat. Acceptable drinks include vegetable juice, herb teas, bottled or mineral water and unsweetened cranberry juice.
Alkaline foods help promote good bacteria in the digestive system and should be eaten at least 70 percent of the time. Some alkaline foods not previously mentioned include sea salt, seaweed, sea vegetables, sweet potatoes, alfalfa sprouts, currants, chestnuts, pepper, parsley, endive, arugula, mustard greens, peas, lettuce, squash, almonds, green tea, Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, eggplant, sesame seeds, leeks, cod liver oil, okra, bell peppers, cauliflower, radishes, ginseng, eggplant, collard greens, Essene bread, raw goat's milk, sprouted grains, ginger tea, ghee, chives, turnip greens, cilantro and lettuce. - Consider dietary supplements that can help with candida overgrowth. One of the best things to take is a probiotic that contains lactobacillus, bifobacterium and acidodophilus. Another good supplement when battling yeast infections is grapefruit seed extract. And in place of sugar, try Fructo-saccharides (FOS), Stevia or Xylitol--all excellent substitutes that can be found in health food stores. To reduce the amount of yeast forming in the intestines, take garlic capsules, echinacea, goldenseal and the following extracts: grape root, tea tree oil and lavender.
