    • In order for any concrete surface to perform well and last for as long as it should, you need to apply some level of sealant or finish to the surface. Finishes can cost upwards of $18 per square foot.

    Do It Yourself

    • Some handymen may choose to forgo professional installation and install a concrete sidewalk themselves. Cost Helper says that consumers can expect to pay between $3 and $4 per square foot for the materials and rental tools for a do-it-yourself concrete sidewalk project.

    Repair

    • Concrete is a very durable material but it is not immune to cracking. Do-it-yourselfers can get the materials to repair cracks for anywhere between $10 and $50. Hiring a professional to repair cracks can cost anywhere between $50 and $200.

    Other Costs

    • Consider other costsbefore committing to a concrete sidewalk installation project. It is recommended that a gravel base be in place before any pouring is done. Also, the concrete should be reinforced with steel mesh. Any tree roots that are in the way will need to be removed or cut back.
