DVD Organization Ideas

    Behind Closed Doors

    • Media cabinets, made especially to hide media, come in a variety of colors, styles and finishes. Even behind closed doors though, an organization method saves time from having to search for the right movie. Putting everything away alphabetically is a simple way to know where everything is. If you are a big movie buff, assign a separate shelf or drawer for different genres, directors or actors. Find a method that works for you and stick to it.

    Open Storage

    • Make your collection an integral part of your interior design with open storage. Buy or build shelves that match your decor, whether it's wood, wrought iron or glass. Organize your DVD's alphabetically or by genre and have a separate shelf for each section. Mix in the original books that inspired the films. Frame photographs of favorite actors or directors and hang them above and to the sides of the shelving units.

    Other Storage Ideas

    • In a smaller apartment, if you do not have an entertainment center, you can nix the cases altogether. Take each disc out and place all of them in colorful jewel cases (the kind that are used for computer CD's) and create decorative labels so you can easily see what they are. Choose different colors for different letters of the alphabet or different genres. Stack them in small file drawers alphabetically or buy open CD storage units to hang on the wall to free up floor space. This allows you the option of still proudly displaying your media collection in less space.
