    • 1). Vacuum all areas containing bed bugs to remove as many as possible.

    • 2). Spray rubbing alcohol on all infected areas. Rubbing alcohol kills bed bugs on contact.

    • 3). Using a commercial steam cleaner on the highest heat setting, clean all areas infested with bed bugs.

    • 4). Dry any infested items such as clothing or rugs, in the dryer on the highest temperature for at least 20 minutes. Extreme heat of at least 120 degrees F kills bed bugs quickly. This should be repeated for all items that can be placed in the dryer.

    • 5). Wrap mattresses with mattress covers made of vinyl or fabric that zip all of the way around. This prevents bugs from entering or exiting the mattress. Pillows can be washed at a high temperature or can be covered with a similar vinyl or fabric cover that zips all the way around.

    • 6). Clean the house to remove dead bed bugs. Be sure to vacuum the entire house and seal any holes, pipes or cracks in the walls. Scrub all surfaces and clean inside any furniture that may be infested.
