Pure Latex Mattresses - Their Advantages Over Other Latex Mattresses

Choosing a high quality latex mattress is a lot easier if you know the difference between the types available.
Although all promise to offer all the necessary back support and comfort you need for quality sleep and rest, many do not.
For instance, mattresses which are simply labelled as "latex" are not really made from natural latex but the synthetic version which has poorer dynamic properties.
In addition, it has been shown to release toxic fumes which pose a risk of a number of health problems in the long-term exposure.
Then there are natural latex mattresses which do not contain synthetic latex, however, they are not necessarily made exclusively from natural latex.
They may contain various fillers which can be made from both natural and synthetic materials.
In addition to natural latex mattresses, it is also possible to find organic ones.
The label "organic", however, is merely a marketing trick as latex cannot be organic.
It can "only" be natural.
The label "organic" therefore guarantees only that the mattress contains no synthetic materials.
Mattresses which are made from a mixture of natural latex and other natural or organic materials if you like are less problematic than those containing synthetic fillers but the added fillers compromise the overall performance as well as durability of the mattress.
The fillers reduce the mattress elasticity and as a result, it may form body impressions.
In addition, the added fillers often promote bacterial and fungal growth which in turn attracts dust mites.
As you have probably already guessed, there is another type of mattresses - pure latex mattresses.
The main difference between pure latex mattresses and the above mentioned types of mattresses is the that they are made exclusively from 100% natural latex, a white milky substance which is harvested from the rubber tree which is native to the Amazon Rainforest.
There is, however, no need to worry about contributing to deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest by choosing a pure latex mattress.
Latex harvesting, known as rubber tapping, does not harm the trees.
It does involve an incision in the trunk of the tree to force it to excrete latex but the incision eventually heals and the tree continues to grow completely normally.
In addition, latex is almost exclusively harvested from sustainably managed rubber tree plantations in south and south-east Asia rather than the Amazon Rainforest.
In addition to being environmentally friendly, pure latex mattresses do not release any toxic fumes and offer all the benefits of sleeping on natural latex which include:
  • quality back support
  • high level of comfort
  • exceptional durability as natural latex provides quality orthopaedic support and high level of comfort up to three decades
  • breathability
  • antimicrobial properties
  • resistance to mould and dust mites
Pure latex mattresses can be made from latex which is produced with the use of Talalay or Dunlop process.
There is no difference in quality between the Talalay and Dunlop latex although the manufacturers may claim otherwise.
But there is a difference in firmness as Talalay latex is always softer than the same firmness grade Dunlop latex mattress.
Which one to choose, however, is a matter of personal preferences.
