What Kind of Items Do People Store?

103 28
Some people manage to find room for all their prized possessions at home.
For others, the only solution is to rent somewhere else to keep them.
But, what do people accumulate and where does it all come from in the first place? Indeed, some of the belongings can be quite mundane.
For example, people who run a business from home often find that old files, paperwork and so on are simply taking up too much space.
Storing them elsewhere means they will still be kept safe, as paperwork in particular may not be able to be thrown away.
And quite often, storing things helps people to plan for the long term.
If you are planning to move to a bigger property in the near future, you won't want to get rid of items of furniture that you have no room for at the moment.
Three piece suites, dining sets and so on are popular items to be stowed away for the time being.
Furthermore, people find it's also cheaper and easier to do this than get rid of their belongings, only to have to replace them later on.
But of course not all items that people store away are mundane, everyday ones.
A popular category of items to stow away concerns hobbies.
Take exercise equipment that is bought in January after the excesses of Christmas, for example.
It doesn't get used very much after all, but the owner doesn't want to get rid of it, so they store it instead.
Other hobbies can take over the house in a much more pronounced way.
If the man of the house has a huge train set that has been built and collected over the years, it may be stored if they move to a smaller property.
The same applies to toys that have been collected and bought by friends and family for young children.
Anyone who has children will know that they collect toys on almost a daily basis.
These become memories of a childhood and some will even become heirlooms.
That's not exactly the type of item you would want to get rid of! While many people store a wide range of things, others will keep a rented space to store one single collection of items.
This is especially true of people who follow a certain interest.
If you are a fan of a specific television programme for example, you might have collected scripts, toys, props and clothing that are all related to that programme.
These are all items that could increase in value over the years, but you might not have room to store them all at home.
In short, people put things into storage for all kinds of reasons.
From the bizarre to the boring, there's no telling what you may find.
