- 1). Pick an animal to study. It can be advantageous to select a less common animal, such as a lemur, since readers will likely know less about this creature than they would a more common one, such as a giraffe, and the information you provide will come as more of a surprise.
- 2). Consult an assortment of print and digital resources when you research your animal. Look specifically for reputable sources and established experts through animal conservation groups and organizations such as National Geographic, Sea World or Animal Planet (see Resources).
- 3). Compose an outline to plan your essay. Use your initial findings to determine what you want to include in your report. Place your gathered information onto paper in an organized fashion.
