- Using essential oils in your bath can serve a couple of purposes. It helps make skin smooth and promotes relaxation, especially if you use an oil such as lavender. Lavender oil is believed to aid in relaxation and relieving tension. Combine a couple of different oils in the bath to maximize the benefits, or dilute the oil with water if you prefer a less potent scent.
- Essential oils can get rid of unwanted odors and provide a fresh and clean scent for the room. Start by filling a spray water bottle halfway and add eight to 10 drops of your favorite fragrant oil. Shake it well and spray it into the air. Keep it away from furniture; the oil could damage or stain fabrics. A tip for removing the smell of cigarette smoke is to combine three drops of rosemary essential oil, three drops of tea tree oil and five drops of eucalyptus. Shake and spray.
- Because so many essential oils have healing properties, using them as part of a compress can be helpful for a variety of ailments. If using a hot compress, add four drops of the essential oil to a pint of hot water. Place the fabric in the water and let it soak in the oils. Wring out the excess water and place it on the area. When using essential oils for massage, dilute them with water before applying to skin to avoid irritation.
